Tuesday, November 09, 2010 - Latest press release from March
|
|
The SRCC is very pleased to announce that Alan Hudd of March 09R will sponsor the Duratec Championship next year in celebration of its first year's success in Sports 2000. Their latest
Press release reads ……..“With a podium place at every race, the March 09R finished in its inaugural season, the car has proved extremely capable. Just two DNF's due to engine related issues and a throttle cable prevented the car from achieving more in an otherwise impressive and reliable first season. The 09R has been through an intensive development programme with its first appearance on track in March, only one month prior to the opening round. The 09R is a particularly advanced Sports 2000 Duratec race car with a monocoque chassis and Hewland FTR sequential transmission. The 09R will need to carry at least 15kg of ballast in 2011 and has further aerodynamic updates in the pipeline - there is still lots more to come from the 09R. Our priority in 2010 has been proving reliability, solving prototype design issues and preparation for production, with these requirements proven we can focus on performance development and look forward to the performance gains coming with new radial tyres for 2011. Come and visit us at Race Car Live, Brands Hatch, November 20/21st or book a test drive through Penny Hayward 01462705260 or Kieron Salter 07710065879. (M09R@kwmotorsport.com)”

PRESS RELEASE
Launch of the March 09R at Autosport show 2010
SRCC Sports 2000 Stand 7160 at the Autosports Show
March Racing Academy is pleased to announce the launch of the March 09 Recreation (09R) designed for the prestigious Sports 2000 Duratec Championship.
Inspiration for the 09R has been the original 1975 Le Mans prototype MARCH 75S and the new design captures the style of the original 75S yet has been completely modernised to create a highly competitive and technically advanced race car.
The design has been carried out by Kieron Salter of K W Motorsport Ltd, an experienced race car designer who has developed a range of proven successful modern LMP cars.
Using sophisticated Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis, normally associated with the design of today’s F1 race cars, and after months of several hundred programme iterations, the new March 09R has been designed to create superior aerodynamic performance whist retaining the unmistakable style of the original MARCH 75S.
Alan Hudd, founder of the March Racing Academy is bullish about the new car and claims, “We believe that the attention to detail in creating this aerodynamic performance is unique and probably makes the March 09R the most advanced aerodynamic sports race car in existence today for club racing”.
Kieron Salter, Managing Director of K W Motorsport added, “‘Morphing’ techniques of the race car body surfaces has created an aerodynamic package with an efficiency exceeding 4:1; achieving sufficiently low drag to meet the top speed expectations for the Duratec engine without compromising down force.”
Complementing the modern aerodynamic performance has been the attention to the design of the chassis and mechanical grip performance of the car. Salter commented on his brief to design a race car, “Our philosophy throughout the design has been to maintain the style of the March 75S, achieve a competitive performance and exceed the safety requirements of a club racing car”.
Hudd reinforces the point by adding, “The 09R is built on a strong aluminium monocoque tub based on original MARCH race cars, creating a very stiff structure. Safety has been a strong feature of our design criteria. Along with a strong monocoque tub, extensive FEA design of the nosebox under impact leads us to believe that the 09R is probably the safest race car in club racing”.
The first 09R chassis #1 will be displayed at the Autosports show. Chassis #1 will be used as the works development car during the 2010 season. 09R/01 will be known as “Lita-Maria” after Hudd’s wife and as a tribute to all the long suffering wives of motorsport enthusiasts.
To see the brand new march 09R visit the Sports Racing Car Club (SRCC) Sports 2000 stand 7160 at the Autosports show.

Thursday, October 15, 2009 - March announcement
|
|
At the Brands Hatch Formula Ford Festival on 17th and 18th October 2009 the March Racing Academy will announce the arrival of the MARCH 09/R Sports 2000 Duratec car. The finished car will be unveiled at the Autosport show at the NEC in January 2010.
At the Formula Ford Festival an in depth video presentation showing the design and development journey through sophisticated 3D movie images of the extensive CFD programming that has been carried out to create the car. Hudd believes, “The level of technology and investment that has gone into developing this car is impressive. We plan to offer the car for sale at the Formula Ford Festival at a competitive price for those early adopters. One very important feature, we want to stress is safety. We are very pleased that we have been able to combine performance with style, but above and beyond all of this has been the design work to create a very safe race car through extensive CFD crash test analysis and redesign of critical sections such as the nose body”.
Salter adds and concludes, “Most traditional designs absorb about 7% of the crash energy, whereas our technology design predicts over 26% of the crash energy is absorbed. This has been helped by starting with designing a very stiff monocoque chassis. ”
For those early adopters of the car, March Racing Academy is offering a Winter Testing package somewhere warm to get used to the car in readiness of the 2010 season. March Racing Academy plan to run a works driver in 2010 to develop the car and all of these developments and trackside advice will be included as part of the support for the early adopters.
March Racing Academy has one of the largest collections of historically important MARCH prototype race cars in the world. In addition to developing the MARCH 09/R Duratec it has the original Le Mans MARCH 75S, rescued from Italy earlier this year and six MARCH Sports 2000 cars, available as arrive and drive packages for those interested in racing in the Sports 2000 championship.
The March presentations will take place in the SRCC hospitality garage on Saturday at the following times:-
12:30 – 13:00
15:00 – 15:30
18:00 – 18:30 (after Macau draw)
All are welcome.

|
MCR clocked up their first win at the Silverstone 1 hour endurance race last Sunday.
Chris Yarwood in his MCR drove a brilliant and inspired race to clinch the top spot for the first MCR outright race win. Second place went to Rupert Russell (Van Diemen) and Nick Bates (Lola B07/90) in their 2 car team. A fine third went to Patrick Sherrington and Mike Jenvey who shared Patrick's MCR. Clive Hayes the man behind MCR in the UK said ' when I took over MCR in the UK I knew the car had potential to be a race winner and today I think we have proved just that.'............. Only 2 cars failed to make the finish despite a wet start but on a hot day the track dried almost as the cars finished their first lap, this gave the advantage to the brave who started on slicks as the wet shod cars had to come in to change over to dry tyres......... Mike Johns in his Van Diemen took 4 th overall and was the last man to finish on the same lap as the winner. Fifth went to Miles Griffiths and Sean Walker the ex S2 champion from the 80's. Congratulations must go to new to S2 Dave Croft with a fine 6th place................... Top Pinto home was the Jim McDougall/Watts (Tiga SC79)pairing and a great drive by Richard Cooke (Lola T87/90) secured 2nd place followed by Geoff Gordon and Kevin Clifford in their Shrike team........A fantastic race, the next 1 hour race is on August 30th at Snetterton.

Saturday, March 21, 2009 - New sponsor for the Duratec Championship
|
|
The SRCC is very excited to announce the new sponsor of the Duratec Championship. The March Racing Academy, a new company formed to recreate the great marque by offering the opportunity to novice and experienced racers to race the original March Sports 2000 cars as well as recreating the March 75S as a modern Duratec Sports 2000 car. The new car is based on the original shape with its massive air box which is so evocative of that era. BUT it is designed with the latest suspension geometry penned by today's Prototype designers of the most advanced Sports Racing Cars. The first car the March 09/R is scheduled to take its place on the grid at the Formula Ford Festival. I'm looking forward to that day.... Does Sports 2000 have a secure future? You bet with Van Diemen, Gunn, MCR, Carbir, Lola, Juno, Motus, Ray and now March joining the ranks of Sports 2000 manufacturers its only a matter of time before Sports 2000 Duratec takes off in other countries. Especially as people realise that despite the fact that these cars are 'proper' racing cars they are ridiculously cheap to run. ....View the press release in our “News section” on our web site.

TECHNICAL BULLETIN
Ford Pinto Inlet and Exhaust Valves.
Following an investigation into the availability of genuine Ford inlet and exhaust valves for the 2.0L Pinto engine the SRCC Technical Committee have agreed the following action, which come into force with immediate effect.
Aftermarket inlet and exhaust valves are permitted in SRCC Pinto and Historic Championships for 2009 as long as the valve is dimensionally identical to the original Ford drawing, is of similar mass to the OE part and conforms to art no. 5.7.1 h) and 5.7.1 k) in the 2009 SRCC Pinto and Historic Championship Regulations. Furthermore, where art no. 5.7.1 h) states ‘Valves shall remain standard’ this shall be interpreted to mean ‘in the form that the valve left the manufacturer with no modification apart from valve seat re-facing for recovery purposes and tip grinding to maintain tolerances’
The Technical Committee would also like to remind all interested parties that where a Ford component (as required by the regulations) becomes obsolete and/or unavailable, any aftermarket replacement must be approved by the SRCC Technical Committee, who will record such a decision. A procedure to allow such approval will be available via the website before the first Championship round.

Congratulations to Chris Snowdon winning the Brands Hatch GP race in his Roayle S2000M, Chris was the only competitor who was praying for rain and got it in copious amounts!! The Royale was chased by Jim McDougal’s Tiga all the way to the flag beating the more modern cars from Carbir, Lola, Swift and Shrike. It goes to show there’s still life left in them at that age and I’m not talking about Chris!
Snetterton race weekend is almost upon us and all those that have told me you are coming need to get your entries in now , that is for the Historic, Pinto and Duratec race as well as the 1 hour Endurance race. The current entry list is on our Forum.

What a night its going to be at the Sports 2000 30th Anniversary, I am very pleased to say that Eric Broadley, the founder of Lola is joining us and the latest ex champs to sign up include Sean Walker, Ian Flux and Mike O'Brien. So far we have over 20 champions and competitors from the first couple of years let alone the latter years.
Unfortunately there are now only 4 places left, its an experience that will NEVER be repeated, the whole history of Sports 2000 in one room with the very people that made it happen and the very people that created the cars...fantastic....

Does anyone have any early films of Sports 2000 races we can show on our 2 giant screens at the D&D? It would be fantastic to see some races from the late 70’s and 80’s. Please email me if you can help, thanks Colin srcc@dial.pipex.com

Saturday, November 24, 2007 - 30th Anniversary D&D
|
|
The Sports 2000 30th Anniversary D&D is now almost full, we have only 14 places left, you had therefore better get your skates on if you would like to come and meet the names behind our beloved formula. Equally if you raced in the past and would like to meet up again with your fellow competitors time is running out………….
It is a black tie dress code and if you can bring anything for our auction that would be fantastic. You know the sort of thing something hugely expensive, different, unique, unusual, greatly sort after etc etc …just a few words there to point you in the right direction!!! ………..
I shall look forward to seeing you all there. Colin

Saturday, November 17, 2007 - Sports 2000 30th Anniversary D&D
|
|
Spaces are very limited on the Lola tour and as it will be technically slanted around the wind tunnel and test rig I would appreciate if those that are not really interested do not do the tour but instead take advantage of the excursions into town to sample the local delights. These will be arranged at the Lola factory at 10 am. I will need to know the names of all those intending to do the Lola tour as visitors name tags will need to be prepared in advance of the visit.
If you have raced a Sports 2000 during the last 30 years and would like to meet up with your fellow competitors then get your tickets ASAP as we can only accommodate 250 guests. If you are an enthusiast and would like to meet the people behind the names and find out what it was really like in those early years then come to the Q&A session. Competitors in the first race and the designers of the first cars will be there as well as champions spanning the 30 years. A unique experience ...don't miss it.......

Monday, September 24, 2007 - Castle Combe 1 Hour Race
|
|
The last 1 hour race we had Snetterton we had a compulsory pit stop where all drivers had to exit and enter the car to equalise the class combinations of 1 car/1 driver, 1 car 2 drivers and 2 car teams. For the Castle Combe race we will use MST to time everyone's compulsory pit stop to enable the few cars to refuel. The time set will be 4 min, it will be up to the teams to time their pit stop but a time or lap penalty will be added to any team having a pit stop less than 4 mins. This will give you ample time to change drivers, have a cup of tea etc Qualifying is at 11.10am so no need to take Friday off. We will have our normal hospitality and awards so come and support this endurance race if you would like them to continue in the future. Entry forms on our web site.

Sunday, September 23, 2007 - Sports 2000
|
|
Congratulations to Rick Johnson and Jim McDougall on winning the Duratec and Pinto championships respectively. For the Historic winner we will need to wait for the last round at the Formula Ford Festival.
....................Don't forget our 1 hour race for 1 car/1 driver, 1 car/2 drivers and 2 car team relay race at Castle Combe on October 6th. All combinations have equal opportunity to win overall and if we are to continue with these events next year we need more support. Everybody who entered the August endurance race had a great time so please download the entry form and get it in ASAP............What have I been saying about the fantastic variety of cars appearing in the Duratec championship, well you can't beat the new car on the block appearing at the Formula Ford Festival race in October. The car started life as a 1988 Reynard Sports 2000 (chassis 01) and ended up in Germany re-bodied in 1993 by Pedrazza Motorsport in Austria to run in Interserie. Great to welcome it back into the fold in Duratec form with its Interserie body and I know Charles Fogg will have fun driving it. How boring are one make championships!!!

I am pleased to announce that the SRCC Sports 2000 Historic Championship has been granted championship status for 2008 subject to meeting the minimum (18) number of starters during 2007. The Historic championship seems to be the catalyst to get all the old Sports 2000 cars that had been modified for other uses back to their forma glory so expect an excellent influx of new competitors and cars into this championship for the start of the 2008 season.

Thursday, July 26, 2007 - 1 hr race & Historic race
|
|
1 Hour race, with the hot favourites not there (Rick and Tom in Duratec, Jim and Andy in Pinto) its anybodies race especially now the format has changed slightly. This year even if you are a one car two drivers you have the same chance to win overall as a two car team. The logistics will be explained by Dave at the drivers briefing but in essence one car one driver will have to pit during the race, get out the car and then get back in. One car 2 drivers you can pit anytime after one lap. Two car teams, when one car comes in after its stint it will have to stop outside the garage and once the driver is out the car the driver of the second car can get into his car. This means all classes can go for the overall win. The pit lane will be closed for driver changes during safety car deployment but open for emergency work on your car. Please remember there is no refuelling in the pitlane. We can do with a few more entrants as I would like to continue with these hour races at better circuits next year but we need maximum support if we are to commit to them. Finally I have a Duratec car that needs a partner......... and don't forget the BBQ after the Historic race on Saturday.. So far we have 21 Historic cars for our second round with still more cars appearing later. Hope to see you there..Colin

Is anyone interested in doing the Donington evening race? The cost is £250 and you get all day testing at Donington and a 20 min race in the evening. Let me know asap please………… The Cadwell timetable will be ready later this week .. The approx times are Duratec free practice at 9.00 am for 15min, Pinto after for a further 15min….Duratec qualifying at 10 am for 30 min and the race is at 2.14pm for 30 min. There will be no Pinto cars in either the Duratec free practice, qualifying or race…..The Historic qualifying is at 11.05 and the race at 1.10 pm. Because the maximum grid is only 26 the Pinto cars will have 2 qualifying sessions and 2 races, exact times to follow. The Pinto races will be after the Historic race…Lots of track time to enjoy a truly unique driving experience, we have not been to Cadwell since 1999 and don’t expect to be back until the next decade so don’t miss the UK’s equivalent to the Nordschliffe. If you have not been before then you definitely need to get the tee shirt!!…..Remember if you have entered the Historic race at full cost you can do the Pinto race for just £100 and visa versa if you have a Historic car…..More info to follow

Wednesday, November 08, 2006 - Lola at the D&D
|
|
Each year at our D&D we have on display a new Sports 2000, last year it was the MCR this year it will be the new Lola, its last appearance before being shipped off to its new home in Spain. The first production car with its more flowing lines will be on our stand at the Autosport show in January. Some of the guys from Lola will be at the D&D to answer any questions.............hmm that means we could get something from the Lola factory for the auction, the odd LMP1 car perhaps??........................................The finished Juno Sports 2000 will also be on our stand along with the car that started it all off the Lola T492. If you are thinking Sports 2000, Duratec or Pinto then put the date in your diary for the NEC in January. ......But first get those D&D tickets NOW or incur a 10 sec penalty for the 2007 season!!! Ticket request form on our home page.

We need 100% support for our D&D, its your club so please support us and your fellow winning competitors. Something for the auction would be great but most important of all we need YOU there.
We have live music and lots to do, see and talk about, so don't miss the season finale. Please return the questionnaire ASAP..................... Looks good for 2007 on the Duratec front with the top 9 within 0.5 of a second after qualifying at the last race of the season. Great to see Mike Turner on pole in his converted Lola but misting glasses put paid to keeping the lead in the race. With customer Lola's and the new Juno and Motus out at the start of the season there will be some Duratec only races next year.

|

B07/90 CONTINUES PREPARATIONS FOR 2007 SEASON
The all new Lola B07/90 chassis starred in yesterdays Race Car Live show at Brands Hatch, showcasing a new livery and wowing a selection of drivers looking to race the chassis next season.
With perfect weather conditions and a large crowd of motorsport competitors and enthusiasts, the Lola B07/90 completed over 40 laps during the day.
A number of established Sports 2000 competitors were on hand to assist in the developments of the B07/90. Both Nick Bates and Chris Yarwood, who have both won many Sports 2000 races enjoyed time in the cockpit throughout the day.
Both were impressed with the car, with Yarwood saying: 'It is a nice package already and it's easy to see the potential. The car was very quick straight out of the pitlane exit, very confidence inspiring, smooth and predictable.'
The B07/90 is the first Lola Sports 2000 design since 1989 and reflects the Huntingdon marques strength in designing cars in both traditional and state of the art race car construction. The car will also be targeted at the thriving trackday and school car market.
After winning it's first race at Silverstone in September the B07/40 will be undergoing additional developments over the winter months for the first production chassis to be available in the New Year in time for pre season testing.
Lola engineers were present at the track to discuss the performance of the car. With track support, organised spares distribution and access to Lola's 7-post vehicle dynamic test rig, future customers will enjoy a close and productive relationship with the factory.
The next chance to see the car will be at the Autosport International Show on 11-14 January 2007.
Teams and drivers interested in purchasing a car should contact Lola on sales@lolacars.com for further information.

|
There is a 1 hour test session late Friday afternoon, the booking form is on our news section. Download and print this off and fax it to the BRSCC on 01732 885783............
The entry for the Formula Ford Festival has gone berserk, I have had more entries for this meeting than any other circuit including the GP circuits. I have had to turn entries away when we reached 40 and this is for a circuit that only takes 28!........................
It is not possible to get extra track time to have qualifying races so entries will be given priority to those currently in the championship...............................
Any Pinto car that cannot get a race in the Pinto’s will be given priority in the Duratec race providing they have a National A licence...........................
We even have more Historic cars entered than we had in the Lola Cup, how mystifying is that! .....................
Interest in Duratec Sports 2000 has rocketed recently and this has also had a positive effect on the Pinto championship to the point where most cars that come up for sale are snapped up pretty quickly..............................
There are a couple of Van Diemens and a Gunn TS6 that have just been put on the web site which will help those seeking a car............................
This is all great for Sports 2000 but doesn’t help for the Formula Ford Festival, please bear with us as clearly there is going to be lots of shuffling around on the day to try and get everybody at least one race. If you normally do the Duratec qualifying in invitation class but not the race then please be aware there may not be room now so the Friday test session may be a better bet.............................
I am glad to say that we don’t have this problem for the longer circuits we normally visit!!

Tuesday, September 26, 2006 - FF Festival Hospitality Suite
|
|
FINISH THE SEASON IN STYLE AT BRANDS!
The BRSCC has hospitality suites still available at Brands Hatch for the Formula Ford Festival (20th – 22nd October), which of course features Sports 2000.
The suites offer excellent views of the Indy circuit, are well presented and are equipped with a refrigerator, a microwave oven, a fan/heater, a full set of crockery/glassware and have the race commentary 'piped' in.
Both suites are equipped with a 42' plasma TV that give access to terrestrial and satellite channels and also to the official timekeepers, so you can get all the lap times/grid positions on screen. The screen can also be split so you can have live motorsport coverage on one half and all the lap times on the other. The plasma has full connectivity so you can also do your own presentations to sponsors, or play DVD's and Playstation games.
The suites are easily accessible from the paddock/pits and provide an ideal way of thanking sponsors for their support during the season or entertaining potential sponsors with a view to next year.
Exclusive use of a suite comes with 30 tickets & 15 car park passes for each day of the meeting and complimentary programmes. A fully inclusive catering service is also available if required.
For more information please contact Dominic Ostrowski at the BRSCC on 01732 783141 or dominic@brscc.co.uk

Sunday, September 10, 2006 - Lola Sports 2000
|
|
Our Silverstone GP race was a landmark for Sports 2000, not only did we have fabulous weather but after 14 years Lola have come back to Sports 2000 with their new Lola B07/90 ............The last Sports 2000 car Lola made was the T92/90 back in 1992 and that model range from 1987 was considered by most to be the ultimate Sports 2000 car you could buy. Well they certainly intended to carry on where they left off as despite the 14 year gap they are back at the front with a maiden win in their prototype car driven by Nigel Grensall..............closely followed by Rick Johnson and they certainly entertained the crowds with their dicing. .......Great to have Lola back producing Sports 2000 cars again........Contact Lola direct for more info or come and see the car in action at Race Car Live at Brands Hatch on Sunday 29th October and on our stand at Autosport International in January (11th to 14th) 2007............calling all Sports 2000 manufacturers if you would like to be with us at these shows contact the SRCC asap.

Thursday, June 29, 2006 - Car needed for Team Relay Race
|
|
Definitely the last year for the Lola Cup unless I get some late entries, with only 8 definite and 2 possible its not a viable proposition to continue. I have given you historic boys your own race if you don't chose to use it then don't be surprised when its not there anymore.
I need one more Pinto car for the 1 hour team relay race as I have an odd
number!! Can I twist your arm to come and play, so far we have 45 cars,
its going to be to be a cracking race as there are no clear favourites to win in both the Pinto and Duratec classes.
BBQ's are ready... see you all there and garage plan will be on this site over the weekend.

Saturday, June 24, 2006 - Snetterton 8/9th July
|
|
Just a quickie, I need the team relay pairing ASAP so I can make sure you get put in the same garage at Snetterton.
Just let me know if you need a team mate as we have several to pair up.
The hot favourites the Johnson brothers can’t make the relay so its wide open this year, there are several contenders in both the Duratec and Pinto classes.
On paper, this year has to be the closest its ever been. So sign up now and support the relay race and the club.
Historic owners the Lola Cup is for you, if you want this type of race in the future you need to support the event as we can only put races on that you are prepared to enter. If the support is not there this year then we cannot run the Lola Cup next year.
With over 4 hours of track time, action on Saturday and Sunday, BBQ, music, great company, hospitality, what more could you wish for……

Monday, April 10, 2006 - Important Information
|
|
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM THE BRSCC CHIEF SCRUTINEER
Helmets - as from 1st January this year the Snell SA95 helmet standard is no-longer acceptable. The ONLY helmet standards acceptable for car events are:- BS6658-85 Type A/FR (red label), Snell SA2000 and SA2005, SFI 31.1A and 31.2A, FIA 8860-2004. The older BS6658-85 Type A (blue label) IS still acceptable but only in the UK (NOT including Southern Ireland). If your championship is running at a mainland European event this standard is NOT acceptable even if it is a complete British Championship round.
As from the 1st of January this year ALL racing cars constructed after 31st December 1961 (1960 for single seaters) are required to have a currently FIA Homologated safety harness (seat belts). All FIA Homologated harnesses will have a homologation label attached to each part of the set. On this label will be the Homologation number and a 'not valid after' date. Once this date is past the set is no longer homologated and will not be accepted. Please refer to MSA Yearbook, section J regulation 20.14.2.
As from the 1st January this year ALL racing cars constructed after 31st December 1965 (1966 for Formula 2) are required to have a fire extinguisher complying with MSA Yearbook section Q regulation 3.1.2.(a). Medium, (2.25 litre AFFF or Zero 2000) Plumbed-in, for discharge into both cockpit and engine compartment.
Please take a moment to check your car complies with both these regulations which are new for 2006. Some championships may have already had these requirements in the past but now they apply to the vast majority of cars in all BRSCC Championships. If your car is presented at scrutineering and does not comply YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE CIRCUIT.
To help club members at Brands who may get caught out by this change if anyone has a spare helmet and/or belts please bring them with you - Thanks CF

The 2 star Hotel du Circuit is close to the circuit but now only has double beds left at 45 euro per room excluding breakfast. If you want one of the double bedrooms then contact me.
Remember it’s a big meeting and all hotels will get booked up if you leave it late. Better to book and cancel later.
We are looking into discount ferries and will keep you posted.

Tuesday, March 01, 2005 - Magny Cours
|
|
Magny Cours, you have to do this race, a one off and a chance to rub shoulders with the big boys. Supporting our race include Historic F2, Euro Boss F1 championship and my favourite cars of all time the heart stopping Can-Am cars in the International Supersports championship.
It will be a great meeting, great weather, great racing, great circuit and great company.
Our French members have found 2 local hotels that we could reserve. They are Hotel du Circuit (2 star) close to circuit, they still have available 11 rooms with one big bed and 7 rooms with two beds @ 45 Euros + breakfast @ 6.5 €
Ibis Hotel (3 star) hotel 10 km from the circuit They still have available 20 rooms with two beds @ 54 Euros for one person and 60 Euros for two persons.
Me, I’m in the cheap hotel as every penny counts!!
Please let me know if you would like to reserve a room, do remember though once the local hotels are booked up it’s a long drive to the next town.
Entry forms will be in the post this week.

Sunday, January 23, 2005 - Brands GP date change
|
|
I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that despite the fact we lost our October Brands GP round due to UK Moto GP superbikes stealing it from us we have secured the only available date left on the GP track.
The bad news is that the date is April 3rd!! A much earlier start than we are used to but worth it as it is the No1 track on everybody’s wish list. Well I guess its 2nd now we have Silverstone GP as that track wasn’t on the questionnaire!!
What a start to the season, Brands GP, Silverstone GP, Spa, Donington Park what more could you ask for (sunshine I guess!!).
I hope to get confirmation on format for Silverstone this Monday and then once the regs are back from the MSA the group booking form and race registration forms will be sent out. To you all.
The magazine has now been sent out and you should all receive this by the end of the week.

With Spa, Brands Hatch GP, Silverstone GP, Donington Park, Oulton Park GP on the race calendar the 2005 season is going to be a great racing experience.

Sunday, January 02, 2005 - 2 Pinto engines available
|
|
Happy New Year to you all.
I know some have been searching for Pinto engines in the UK, well Les Johnson is exporting 2 Pinto Van Diemen cars to the USA. Both cars will be sent as rollers so he will have 2 fresh ready to race engines for sale and one was the ex championship winning engine. The cars have not yet been sent so you can see the engines being run if required. Les can be reached on 01400 230423 or email les@ancasterkarting.co.uk
This doesn’t mean we won’t bee seeing any Van Diemen S2’s over here as 3 Duratec Van Diemens will be contesting the 2005 championship which is great news.

Tuesday, December 07, 2004 - Promo DVD
|
|
At the D&D you may have noticed the short DVD (after the US race) which had bits from our season. This makes an excellent promo that can be used to show potential sponsors for your racing. It has lots of grid shots, accidents and paddock scenes. At £6.50 including P&P it’s a bargain if it can help you gain some sponsorship.

Thursday, November 25, 2004 - Race Car Live
|
|
We will have a presence at Race car Live at Brands Hatch on December 4th. Trevor Willard will bring his car and will be there to talk to people. However we could do with a couple more cars especially a Duratec car. If you can help please let me know asap. You can drop cars off on Friday and collect Sat/Sun or Monday.
As our D&D is on the same day, with 150 coming to the D&D there are not many left to man the SRCC space (garage No. 27) so if you can help with personnel or a car please do get in touch.
Are there any cars coming over from the US, I have someone wanting to share container space if interested. There will be a container coming in March but anything before?
Please email srcc@dial.pipex.com or ring on either of the above.

Tuesday, November 23, 2004 - Free race entry for 2005 season
|

Tim Perry has now sold his Royale S2000M but needs to sell his Shrike P15 to fund a Duratec project. His car is up for £8,000 but if sold to someone who will run the car in the UK then he will pay all entry fees for the whole season as part of the package!!

Friday, November 19, 2004 - Live Timing
|
|
This has been one of my crusades as I was so impressed with the live timing shown at the US run off’s that I felt we had to have it for all our races. It’s the next best thing to actually being there and I can see it developing in the future to provide video footage as well as timing and who knows the commentating as well. All possible with the next generation of broadband. Anyway to cut a long story short after receiving only negative comments from those that could do it I decided to go it alone. However I am very pleased to say that I have now found someone that can do this by expanding their future live text service. With any luck this should be operational for the start of the season, I will keep you posted on developments.

Friday, November 19, 2004 - Race Car Live
|
|
When JP told me about his Race Car Live at Brands Hatch I said it was a great idea and count us in, then he told me the date….December 4th!! So I had no choice but to decline and suggested a date in November next year. This I believe he is going to do but he is very keen that we have a presence there.
So if there is anybody or manufacturer who would like to be there to represent the formula do let me know asap.

Sunday, November 07, 2004 - Welcome
|
|
The redoubtable Chris Abel, who unexpectedly won his last outing of 2003 in his Lola T86/90, eventually sold his car to Howard Jones earlier this year. However, Howard has been busy this year winning his third class championship in four years in 750MC Roadsports in his Ginetta G4, and so hasn't been seen in S2. Anyway, he says he could not remember how to get the Lola out of its box trailer! But he promises to remedy this by next season to add to the competing ranks in S2 - class B in 2005.'

Monday, November 01, 2004 - Probe 16 & Top Gear
|
|
Listen up guys ‘n’ girls I need a big favour, if you watched Top Gear last night on BB2 you would have seen that they featured the Adams Probe 16 as a contender for their restoration project. This car was the one in Clockwork Orange that drove underneath the lorry. Well its in a pile of boxes and will never see the light of day if it doesn’t win!
Its mine so PLEASE PLEASE can you vote for it as it’s the viewers vote that decides the winner and there are 4 other contenders.
You can see the program again I believe at about 11.20pm tonight on BBC2 and the number to ring is 09011 110835 and you need to vote for No. 3. By voting you also enter the competition to be a VIP guest of Top Gear on a track test day.
If I win everybody gets 100 extra points in the 2005 championships!!
PS Did you see how I discretely placed a Sports 2000 Lola front behind the car.

The Winter Warmer has had to be cancelled as when the BRSCC offered the double header they hadn’t realised that there were championship summer races scheduled for the weekend!! I have hung on to see if there were any last minute changes as we have 25 wanting to come…so frustrating.
The rocket building competition is still on but now it’s the Rocket Building Competition Party instead. Plenty of room for those wanting to stay the night.

Oh yes nearly forgot, there is also a Sports 2000 double header race at Brands Hatch on 6/7th November, which is jolly convenient as Brands is only 20 min away from the rocket competition!! Friday, July 23, 2004 - Donington race times

The BRSCC are acutely aware that the promised weekend meeting at Donington has turned into a Saturday only meeting and have given their apologies. They have tried to make amends by working the September Snetterton race times around our requirements as well as giving us all the garages. We will be having an evening barbeque and the format will be a historic only race on the Saturday along with all qualifying and the Pinto and Duratec race on the Sunday. Should be a great weekend.
For our Donington meeting we are on Saturday 31st July and we have the garages 14 to 26 and the paddock area behind them. Nicola will do a garage plan shortly.

Remember you Duratec drivers you will have an extended practice with no Pinto’s running with you. I hope to have times and paddock location later this week. When I do know it will go out via our news service. See you there.

So please bring something along to put into the auction, its a good fun way of helping club funds and you may go home with more than you think - last year Lawrence Phillips met a girl that just didn't say no to anything!!

This will then allow any licence holder to come and race with us. It is not cheap to register all rounds on the off chance so besides our Sports 2000 Festival no other round will be registered unless I hear from you!!

Tuesday, October 15, 2002 - Formula Ford Festival
|
|
As you know we have 16 garages for the Formula Ford Festival for 45 cars. Now you don’t need to be a nuclear physicist to work out that we need 3 cars per garage. That in itself is not a problem however the space for the transport vehicles is. In simple terms there is not enough room to get them in let alone other road cars. It is essential therefore that all road cars are NOT brought into the inner paddock, please leave them by the shops and just walk through the tunnel. If you bring a road car in you will be preventing a fellow competitor from bringing their race car in. Your cooperation is essential on this matter and squeezing transport vehicles as close together as possible.
If you have entered the Pro race in your Pinto car please do make sure you start the race as we have a film crew from Ford coming down to video our race with a view to giving support to our new series.
I see the Festival weather has arrived but you never know it may yet be dry!! Whatever the weather the racing will be intense as all the class winners and overall winner have gone down to the wire and all these position will be decided at this race…..Good luck to you all

If we can get 25 cars then we could have 2 races and therefore you could share a car. We would be in the inner paddock with some garage space. If you would like to take advantage of this great opportunity to race on this remarkable circuit then send a returnable deposit of £100 (payable to the SRCC) to me at 51 London Lane, Bromley, Kent BR1 4HB by this coming Monday 23rd September. If we get sufficient entries then the Rockingham race will be your winter warmer for 2002.

Tuesday, August 13, 2002 - Zandvoort Race
|
|
There has never been a better time to go to Zandvoort, for just £30 extra you can now have another 30 min practice session on the Friday plus a barbeque and free drinks.
That’s a 30 min practice session Friday lunchtime, another 30 min practice session at 4 pm, qualifying Saturday morning and the race in the afternoon. Nearly 2 hours track time for £180 and a barbeque to boot. You need to take advantage of this opportunity as it seems the licence rule is going ahead so its unlikely there will be UK visits in the future. Its not too late to enter and if you have already entered and would like to enter the extra practice session let me know.

Thursday, August 08, 2002 - Zandvoort
|
|
Zandvoort is GO If the powers to be have their way and they make all the overseas races International C grade then you really should make the most of our race at this fabulous circuit as it may be several years before we can go back. Many feel Zandvoort is even better than Spa, certainly it has everything you have ever wanted from a track and even has the very rare flat out bends!! The beach is 1 min away and the town with its many restaurants is just 3 mins away and of course Amsterdam is just a 30 min train ride!! The atmosphere is great, the officials are helpful and friendly (another rare commodity) and we are on the full GP circuit…..come and enjoy while you still can!
Times etc should be out in the next couple of days and remember there is Friday practice (FOC i.e. free) and qualifying and the race on Saturday which means you can enjoy the organised barbeque and night out on the town. All this for just £150 entry fee. It takes about 45 min to get to the circuit from the port. There are plenty of excellent cheap hotels in Zandvoort.

|
Monday, August 05, 2002 - Zandvoort
|
|
We may have to cancel Zandvoort as we have had a couple drop out, the organisers are keen to have us there and can offer a very cheap ferry crossing if we go Thursday evening on the freight ferry which leaves Harwich at 11pm and arrives in Holland at 6am. Please let me know before Wednesday 7th August if you are interested, it’s a fabulous track and an opportunity to race on it should not be missed. Phone or email me at srcc@dial.pipex.com

Monday, July 08, 2002 - S2 Festival supplement regulations
|
|
THE FESTIVAL,
This will operate in a similar fashion to the Formula Ford Festival and will be a knockout competition over two heats, a last chance race & the final.
Heats 15 Laps Last Chance 15 Laps Final 25 Laps
Black & Yellow flags will be used throughout the event
HEATS AND FINAL
Grid positions for the Heats will be determined by times set in the qualifying sessions. The fastest driver from qualifying going to Heat 1 & the second fastest driver to Heat 2 alternating in this fashion through the qualifying times.
Drivers practising out of session or who qualify only through familiarity with the circuit will be placed at the back of the grid in accordance with MSA regulations.
The first 12 finishers from each Heat will qualify for the final.
Grid positions for the Final will be formed with the fastest qualifying Heat winner on pole position & the slower qualifying Heat winner being allocated the second position on the grid. The remainder of the grid will be formed in alternate order of the finishing of the qualifying Heats.
The 6 qualifiers for the Final from the Last Chance Race will be allotted the last 6 places on the grid in order of finishing the Last Chance race.
The above format will be used regardless of track conditions during any race. Any revision to this format will be published in the final instructions.
LAST CHANCE RACE
Up to 14 finishing drivers from each heat who have not qualified for the Final will be eligible for the Last Chance Race.
The grid will be formed in alternate order with the driver setting the quickest race time from the two heats on pole.
The Last Chance Race will be over 15 laps and should it be necessary to red flag the race for any reason the result will be determined on the classification of the previous lap achieved. However any car not moving under its own power at the time of showing the red flag will not be classified in the results.
The observers’ reports will be regarded as judgements of fact for such cars in their sectors.
Should a lap not be achieved for the purpose of determining the classification then it may be: -
i) Time permitting, restarted over a distance determined by the Clerk of the Course (whereby the above will still apply) or
ii) Be determined by qualifying times or
iii) Be determined by ballot.

Thursday, March 28, 2002 - £100 Race entry!!
|
|
If you have tried to book a test at Silverstone you will know there is a 20 long reserve list!! All is not lost though as all those entering the Pinto race can race in the Pro series for £100. You can’t get better value than that!! We need your support to bolster the grid while the Duratec cars are being built. The majority preferred the race before the Pinto race so that they can use it as a very cheap test. It means those who can’t test on the Friday now can get on an equal footing by using the Duratec practice to get in the groove ready for the Pinto practice. You know what’s its like once the race is over you want to get out there again and do it properly, well now you can!! Remember this opportunity will only be available this year so make the most of it and the £100 entry fee can only be guaranteed for the first 2 races.
If you would like to enter the Duratec race with your Pinto car just send me a cheque for £100 made payable to the BRSCC and I will do all the paperwork…..couldn’t be easier!!

Saturday, December 22, 2001 - Hallo Freunde in Deutschland
|
|
Habt Ihr Interesse? Dann bitte an srcc@dial.pipex.com wenden.

Thursday, October 18, 2001 - Nik Johnson 2001 Sports 2 Championship Winner
|
|
Congratulations can now go to Nik Johnson for winning the 2001 Sports 2000 Championship. Nik has now had his engine inspected which came through with a clean bill of health.
Our scoring system has meant that race winners have not had a large point buffer from those who come 2nd,3rd or 4th. This means more competitors have a realistic chance of winning. Great for the series but it means winning the overall championship is more difficult than F1!! To win before the last race clearly demonstrates Nik’s ability although Mark Jackson came very close to ensuring a show down at the Festival.
I’m sure I read somewhere that all championship winners have to carry 100kgs ballast, or was it just young championship winners who’s name ends with Johnson!!!! …….Well done Nik the celebrations begin at the Formula Ford Festival
